Jim Gallucci - The Listening Bench
Gallucci twines speaking tubes through the bench and tops
them with amplifiers that resemble morning glories of the speaker of a
Victorian phonograph. Children and adults find this inviting interactive piece
a way for interaction with each other. His works are playful, interactive public
pieces.
“My benches are publicly placed objects that invite interaction with the passers-by. The benches are playful objects that invite the public to sit and talk with a friend or acquaintance. Though each can function as a ' seat,' there is an impracticality of form lures viewers to explore each bench and try to discover what they are about.” Recent work includes a series of gates and doors, which he sees as an "entry" for the public to engage with his art. Gallucci is a graduate of Syracuse University and has been a sculptor for over 30 years. Many of his works are public, corporate, and residential commissions. He and his team work out of his studio in Greensboro, NC. www.jimgalluccisculptor.com |
